Hi Name Withheld, Thanks for writing and thanks for listening. I hope
you continue to listen and that it will be a blessing to your in your
walk with Christ. In reverse order:
2) Did I miss it or is Cain not in Adam's genealogy?
You didn't miss it. You were misdirected. Slight of hand. Chapter 4
is the Genealogy of Cain, and Adam is definitely in it.
Genesis4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain,
and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Verses 2-16 are parenthetical, Cain's genealogy continues in verse 17.
Notice the exact same formula is repeated.
Genesis 4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and
she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the
name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain
And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch
Standard way of indicating descent. Now, Cain is not included in the
Genealogy of Chapter 5 because Noah was not a descendant of Cain. Also
it is not unusual in the bible for firstborn sons to be excluded from
Genealogies because of some sin.
If you look at the Genealogy of Christ you will observe that many of the
persons in his Genealogy were not the firstborn sons.
Jacob was chosen over Esau, Judah was chosen over Reuben. Reuben is not
in Christ's Genealogy because Reuben is not the ancestor of Christ,
Neither is Esau. It would be strange indeed if Cain was included in a
genealogy that included Noah, because Noah did not descend from Cain.
But we do find Adam in Cain's genealogy. Cain is excluded from the line
of Noah, and ultimately of Christ, as was Esau, and as was Reuben and
many others. Being firstborn does not mean you are automatically in the
line of inheritance.
1) What did God mean when he says he will put enmity between thy seed
and the serpent seed?
The seed of the woman is one of those cover to
cover parables in the bible, I talk about it extensively in my study on
Revelation 12. Cain was also the seed of the woman. Eve was mother of
all living. No one ever questions whether she was mother of Cain. So
it is not her carnal seed that God has in mind when he says this to the
serpent. Foremost in his mind is Christ. And people always make that
connection. "It shall bruise thy head, but thou shalt bruise his (Christs)
heel." We think of the seed of the woman as being Christ. So Satan's
seed must be spiritual here and not carnal, because Cain was also of the
woman's seed. If it was an issue of Cain being the literal son Satan
then why was it not "I will put enmity between thee and THE MAN ADAM,
His seed shall bruise they head, and thy seed shall bruise his heel."
That is where they say the distinction lies. They say that Cain was not
Adam's son, so it would be an enmity between Adam and the Serpent.
Cain was of the woman, he was carnally the woman's seed, so I can't see
how this could refer to Cain being Satan's carnal seed.
The serpent seed is spiritual as is the seed of God in us. We do not
need carnal intercourse to become the children of God.
1 John3:7 Little children, let
no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he
is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil
sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was
manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth
in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Notice the mention of "his seed" there. Yep, "sperma"
but we should not read our language back into greek, it means seed in
the conventional sense as well as in the reproductive sense.
10 In this the children of God
are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not
righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Notice that the children of God are manifest in their works, not in
their physical descent.
11 For this is the message
that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And
wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his
brother's righteous.
Notice, Cain's wickedness is explained by works.
It does not say (as Pastor Murray suggests) that Cain was so evil
because his dad was Satan. He was of the wicked one because of his
works. His works were not a result of his being the son of Satan. That
is about as unChristian an idea as I can come up with.
But We are the Children of God through Christ, the
promised seed of the woman who redeemed us from the power of Satan,
whose seed in us leads us to sin and unrighteousness. Satan's seed is
not his ejaculate (pardon my graphic representation) this is the seed
of the serpent: "Hath God said?" Satan sows spiritual seeds of doubt,
fear, and desire in us in order to lead us to sin in order to destroy
us. That is what he did from the beginning. Cain was satan's seed
because he was a murderer, he was not a murderer because he was Satan's
carnal descendant.
I Recommend my study in Matthew 13, I'm glad you
are listening. feel free to ask any follow-up questions. I'm answering
this in a hurry today, but I wanted to get your reply off asap.
I am at your service,
Sincerely,
