Have you done any research on E Raymond Capt.  I find him most interesting that other scholars have not done what he has.  His lost chapter of Acts, his Anglo- Israelism teaching and so on.  Have you found him reliable?

Thanks,

xxxxxx

Hi xxxxxxxx

I did read all his books that I bought from the chapel.  I did do research on the lost chapter of acts, and it is certainly a forgery.  When it comes to the history of the migrations of people there are no collaborating sources other than other Anglo-Israelite teachers.  It is just the story of the migration of people, so one would think there ought to be some historical collaboration from outside sources.

Also, there are biblical reasons to question the whole concept; such as the idea that the Israelites would be "scattered" (not migrate en masse) and left "few in number" among the heathen.

It (also) begins to be a ridiculous parody of those who claim to be Native American because of a single ancient relative who was native, six generations prior.  I have no doubt that many people from Europe (AND ASIA, AND AFRICA,) have some Israelite ancestors (they were not MERELY scattered into Europe!) , but that ancestry represents small groups of captives and fugitives who were absorbed into much larger native populations, so the 'blood" is highly diluted.

The Europeans are gentiles, in the New Testament they are always spoken of as such.  Many of the scriptures used to back up Capt and Murray represent abuse of scripture.  I think that they use evidence selectively and in a way that is not very responsible.   I have touched on many of these on my website but if you would like I can address any specific concerns you have.

Sincerely
Paul Stringini

Thanks for your note.  I really don't see any evidence that Jesus went to England with his uncle as Capt and Arnold teach. Just because a man named Joseph and a boy in a boat does not prove anything. Am I missing anything?

Thanks,

James

I don't think your missing something in that. I think it is a very romantic notion to believe in these legends.  It is sort of like, "Lincoln slept here,"  it is human to want to believe special things about the places we inhabit.  Still, even if the legends are true; we do not better ourselves, nor strengthen our faith by believing them.

More often than not, belief in these legends mysteriously leads to increased arrogance and an exalted sense of ones own importance.  At least that is what I have found of the people who devote themselves to these external stories and myths.

I think it may have to do with the devotees I have known being also dedicated to Dr. Murray's teaching, so they take their belief in the legends as further evidence of their "eyes to see,"  solidifying their belief that they are the "elect"

(I certainly believe in election, but Dr. Murray's doctrine of election inspires arrogance and an exalted sense of self, in my opinion, because he teaches that election is based on a pre-existential "stand against satan," and not based on the grace of God)
