Dear Paul,

I stumbled upon your website while looking for a reference on Shepherd’s Chapel.  I have studied with Pastor Murray for about 18 months now.  I am thankful for his teachings in that they caused me to study more and dig deeper for God’s wisdom.  Even as a child my Dad always told us (his six children) not to take what the preacher said at face value but to reread the scripture alone with God, asking for the Truth.

I make it a habit not to begin any study or reading of the Word without welcoming the Holy Spirit as my teacher and guide.  I base this on Jesus promise that He, the Holy Spirit, would be our teacher.  I did not pray before reading on your site but I do believe the Holy Spirit has guided me.  My heart screams that I have taken too much of what Pastor Murray teaches as fact.

I will not, like some, declare never to listen to him (Murray) again.  My scheduled study time with him has long been the beginning of my time with God each day.  I will declare to be more open to the Holy Spirit and His teaching.

I believe that each of us is born into this life with a purpose ordained by God.  I pray that you are walking God’s path, fulfilling the purpose He has for you and not causing even one to “stumble” or go astray.

In His Love,

XXX

Joy,
Thanks for your feedback. It is not whether we listen to someone or not.  It is how we hear them.

Part of the conclusion of the parable of the sower is this:

Luke 8:18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

He was referring to how we hear the word of God, but this can be applied more broadly; we ought to give care to how we hear everything that comes to our ears.

I would never ask anyone to "never listen to Dr. Murray again," but rather that the way in which they hear him (or anything else for that matter) would never be the same again.

Paul
