Really Likes Shepherd's Chapel's "Messianic" Aspect;  Asks, "Where Else Can I Go?"

Subject: So.. if not Murray, who else to listen to?

My introduction to Shepherd's Chapel was simply Dennis Murray reading the Tanakh.  I was nice to hear a whole chapter read in one sitting, instead of hearing a speaker ramble for half an hour about three verses.

I am still unclear which Commandments that Yeshuah wants us to follow.  Over on FFOZ.ORG (First Fruits of Zion), a messianic author, Tim Hegg, has an audio book, "What's so New about the New Covenant."   That work makes sense, stating the Sanai covenant was meant for both Jews & the "mixed multitude."

That work's focus is that the Aaronic priesthood has been replaced by Yeshuah, of the Melchizadekian priesthood.  Yet, the covenant is still in place.

Praying in unknown tongues can be a sore spot.  I have never heard Pastor Murray cite 1 Corinthians 14, when speaking his perspective on 'tongues.'  He has always seemed to cite the occurrence in Acts, which was a public sign, rather than a personal prayer language, and personal song language.

But then, John MacArthur (expository teacher) & Chuck Swindol were the first radio-preachers that harped on the topic, encouraging listeners to just pray for the "misled souls" that engaged in 1 Corinthians 14 prayers.

I was actually surprised that Methodist churches acknowledged the relevance of 1 Corinthians 14, in addition to the standard denominations like Pentecostal & Assemblies of God.

Can you suggest any denominations that practice both Saturday Shabbat, as well as tolerating private use of personal prayer language?

Sincerely.

Hi David, I guess I have to disagree, there is much that is new about the new covenant, and if one misses the differences, they are missing what Christianity is all about.

The new covenant is established on "better promises"

Heb 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

I strongly suggest you read the rest of that chapter (Hebrews 8)

This fact is the old covenant is the ministration of death and condemnation.  The Apostle Paul teaches that the ten commandments and such are "abolished" in Christ.

2Cor3:13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

The reference to Moses "putting a veil over his face" is a direct reference to the time Moses came down off the Mount with the two tables of stone.  That is a DIRECT reference, and Paul calls it "that which is abolished."  As far as I'm concerned, the Apostle Paul knows a lot more about this stuff than Tim Hegg

1Tim1:.9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

The new covenant is the Ministration of Righteousness (just read all of 2Cor 3) In the new covenant we do not need external laws to make us righteous, it is Christ who makes us righteous from within.

Hope that helps,  and sorry this took so long, but I did not have an answer (and still don't) to your primary question,  I do not know a church that does the things you were looking for.

If you would like me to clarify anything for you I would be glad to help.

Sincerely, Paul Stringini
